Diabetes Impotence
A lot can go wrong when you’re diabetic - ( yes, even.. aahh! Diabetes Impotence ). The complications, the highs, the lows, the daily grind of just being vigilant to stay on top of it. It is by far one of the most taxing diseases I believe is out there.
I know that you can be diagnosed with anything and that anything can be really something to have to live with. By taxing I am really referring to the fact that it is chronic. Type one especially. That is said simply because it starts at such an early age and is life long. Type two is again no exception to chronic, but the one saving grace is I guess that there was a time when it wasn’t there and it does enable you more power over it. (Every little bit adds up to a happier perspective).
So with that being said, I am not taking away from anyone their suffering. I am empathetic to all and hope that not only you champion for yourself, but that others champion for you as well.
Diabetes complications rise from the physical to the psychological. There is no facet of your life that it does not touch. Here we are going to talk about the one area that isn’t the easiest to discuss.
Diabetes Impotence.
As difficult as it maybe being diabetic puts you in the line of fire so to speak for diabetic impotence, so take this time to read, absorb and feel at ease with the topic. The more at ease you can be the easier and more helpful it will be for you to seek the treatment required and find the success you need.
Not getting up well in the morning? Diabetes Impotence may be the problem!
Diabetic Impotence, as with anyone else can take a heavy toll on ones life and the life of the one they love. In fact, it will actually increase stress levels as it adds to frustration, self esteem issues, shame, discouragement and more significantly if not treated can lead to depression. This is where the issue is two fold and needs to be treated as such. Your Physician will be more then happy to help you find your way to recovery, both mentally and physically. With this in mind, Impotence can fall into two types:
Diabetic Impotence Causes:
1) From the damage that occurs to the nerves and blood flow that control the blood that travels to the penis. Not only can this damage occur, but other damage from medications and hormone problems can become a factor as well.
2) Psychological impact will be able to play a major role as well. If the issue is medical, the psychological factors can easily follow. But even just the daily stress of life, work, family and frustration can certainly contribute to performance anxiety.
There is a catch 22 here, having one can lead to the other and having the other can lead to the other! If you’re experiencing damage, stress will occur and if you’re experiencing stress, you could likely begin to be less vigilant in your control of your Blood Glucose levels, simply because of preoccupation.
Diabetic Impotence needs to be taken seriously. Eighty percent of men with diabetes develop erectile dysfunction in comparison to 20 percent of men without diabetes.
The stats are even more alarming when you compare a man of 65 who would normally be more inclined primarily due to age that with diabetes the occurrence can happen 10 to 15 years prior and even earlier with men 30 and younger.
Lets take a look at some factor’s that help lessen the chances of Diabetic Impotence before looking at the causes. Here’s what you can do and should:
• Keep vigilant care of your blood glucose levels.
• Stay active
• Eat healthy
• Do not smoke
• Avoid excessive alcohol
• Do what you can to reduce Cardiovascular disease risk (see your Physician for guidance and advice0
• Make an appointment to see an urologist.
• Find someone to talk to, a counselor, a member of your diabetic team, a friend
• Keep lines of communication open with your partner, this is an essential component. Keeping your partner aware and giving them the opportunity to not only support you but to feel that they are not part of the problem, but a part of the healing.
• Be inquiring, there are options, ask and learn them, get direction to a specialist.
• Know that there are medications available to aid you. These can be taken orally, injected or applied to the penis.
• Surgery is an option that involves implant devices. These are meant to help you achieve and maintain an erection
• Vacuum devices are available. These are applied to the penis and will not only cause but help you keep and erection.
Why does Diabetes Impotence happen?
The main factor with most Diabetic conditions results from poor Blood Glucose control. This is one factor that can never be stressed enough as the damage that occurs from lack of it is so much worse than the not being able to control it. If you experience any difficulties in getting and maintaining control, do not feel this is yours alone to handle. You have a full team of professionals, advisors and Diabetic Nurses educators who will happily help you to manage it successfully.
With poor Blood Glucose levels nerve and blood vessel damage occur. This can lead to neuropathy and damage of your nerves throughout your body. What you may not be aware of is that when this occurs, your nerves cannot properly communicate. A lack of communication can obviously lead one to know that the information is not being relayed to penis and therefore it is unable to respond.
Nitric Oxide Production can become inhibited due to poor Blood Glucose Levels. This will prevent any pressure in the blood from raising enough to close off the penile veins.
This can allow the blood to flow out of the penis instead of allowing it to remain for an erection.
Cardiovascular disease can be a major player in Diabetic Impotence. With Cardiovascular disease the blood vessels become narrowed, thus the arteries that would supply the penis can then become disrupted.
Diabetic Impotence is a serious complication. Don’t feel that you are the only one or that no one understands. The support and kindness that will be extended to your through education and treatment will lead you to feel able to tackle this without reservation. Always seek the advice of your doctor. He or she will guide you on the path of wellness and treatment.
